Water Heater FAQ
How do I know if my water heater is about to fail?
Most water heaters last 8 to 12 years. Warning signs include rusty-colored water, strange “popping” or rumbling noises (caused by sediment buildup), or water pooling around the base of the tank. If your heater is over 10 years old, it’s a “ticking time bomb”—let the Hometown team replace it before it leaks and damages your basement.
What’s the difference between a traditional tank and a Tankless Water Heater?
A traditional tank keeps 40–60 gallons of water hot 24/7, even when you aren’t using it. A tankless system (on-demand) only heats water when you turn on a tap. Tankless units are much smaller, mount to the wall, and provide an endless supply of hot water—you’ll never run out mid-shower again!
How long does a water heater installation take?
We know you can’t go long without hot water! A standard tank-for-tank replacement usually takes the Hometown team 2 to 3 hours. Switching from a tank to a tankless system takes a bit longer (usually 4–6 hours) because of the new venting and gas lines required.
